Action vs. Reaction

Do you react to what God is doing around you or are you an "actionary", one who acts first to cause a reaction.

Components of Abundance

Abundant life is not an automatic by-product of being "saved".  But rather a place that God wants to lead you to.  Some of the components of an abundant life include:

  1. We need to be complete in Him and not depend on external sources.
  2. We can not be owned by our possessions.  If we diligently seek Him, He will be the reward us. He must be the source our abundance. Hebrews 11:6.
  3. Our unbelief and faithlessness births fear, discontentment & murmuring. These things will keep us from His Promises and in the wilderness just as the Israelites wandered for 40 years.  Faith towards God produces worship regardless of ones current situation and worship in turn produces praise.
  4. Wait on the Lord in your times of struggle and he will renew you (Isaiah 40:31).

The Power of His Word: Mark Chapters 9 – 11

The Message Mark 11:22-25 "Jesus was matter-of-fact: ‘Embrace this God-life. Really embrace it, and nothing will be too much for you. This mountain, for instance: Just say, ‘Go jump in the lake’—no shuffling or shilly-shallying—and it’s as good as done. That’s why I urge you to pray for absolutely everything, ranging from small to large. Include everything as you embrace this God-life, and you’ll get God’s everything. And when you assume the posture of prayer, remember that it’s not all asking. If you have anything against someone, forgive—only then will your heavenly Father be inclined to also wipe your slate clean of sins’."

From the small to the large, and it’s not all asking. Jesus wants to be included in every part of our life.

The Power of His Word: Mark Chapters 6-8

The Message 6:3 "But in the next breath they were cutting him down: ‘He’s just a carpenter—Mary’s boy. We’ve known him since he was a kid. We know his brothers, James, Justus, Jude, and Simon, and his sisters. Who does he think he is?’ They tripped over what little they knew about him and fell, sprawling. And they never got any further."

Tripping over what little they knew – the tragedy of religion that doesn’t bring us into relationship with Jesus. You can know a little about Him and think that’s all there is to Him and never go any further.

The Power of His Word: Mark Chapters 1 – 3

The Message Mark 1:27-28 "Everyone there was incredulous, buzzing with curiosity. ‘What’s going on here? A new teaching that does what it says? He shuts up defiling, demonic spirits and sends them packing!’ News of this traveled fast and was soon all over Galilee."

A new teaching that does what it says. That is what our world is looking for today. Let our actions match our words.

The Power of His Word: Matthew Chapters 27 -28

The Message Matthew 28:1-4 "After the Sabbath, as the first light of the new week dawned, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to keep vigil at the tomb. Suddenly the earth reeled and rocked under their feet as God’s angel came down from heaven, came right up to where they were standing. He rolled back the stone and then sat on it. Shafts of lightning blazed from him. His garments shimmered snow-white. The guards at the tomb were scared to death. They were so frightened, they couldn’t move.

5-6 "The angel spoke to the women: ‘There is nothing to fear here. I know you’re looking for Jesus, the One they nailed to the cross. He is not here. He was raised, just as he said. Come and look at the place where he was placed’."

The greatest event in the history of mankind; the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. How awesome it is to know, to really know, the love of God. What great lengths He has gone to secure our redemption.

Like the angel said, "There is nothing to fear here." Only awe and wonder.

Tomorrow, the Gospel of Mark.

The Promised Land is Here!

If you weren’t there yesterday for Sunday school and service you missed a couple of great messages by Bro. Freddy DeChristopher from the Oneonta fellowship.  In this Sunday teaching he explains why so many wonder in the desert wilderness of Christianity without entering into the true "promised land".

The Power of His Word: Matthew Chapters 24 – 26

The Message Matthew 24:13-14 "Staying with it—that’s what God requires. Stay with it to the end. You won’t be sorry, and you’ll be saved. All during this time, the good news—the Message of the kingdom—will be preached all over the world, a witness staked out in every country. And then the end will come."

Stay with it to the end. You won’t be sorry.

There will be tough times ahead in our lives, but none so tough that God would ever abandon us. I hope that you would never get so discouraged that you would abandon Him.

The Power of His Word: Matthew Chapters 21 – 23

23:4-7 "Instead of giving you God’s Law as food and drink by which you can banquet on God, they package it in bundles of rules, loading you down like pack animals. They seem to take pleasure in watching you stagger under these loads, and wouldn’t think of lifting a finger to help. Their lives are perpetual fashion shows, embroidered prayer shawls one day and flowery prayers the next. They love to sit at the head table at church dinners, basking in the most prominent positions, preening in the radiance of public flattery, receiving honorary degrees, and getting called ‘Doctor’ and ‘Reverend.’

8-10 "Don’t let people do that to you, put you on a pedestal like that. You all have a single Teacher, and you are all classmates. Don’t set people up as experts over your life, letting them tell you what to do. Save that authority for God; let him tell you what to do. No one else should carry the title of ‘Father’; you have only one Father, and he’s in heaven. And don’t let people maneuver you into taking charge of them. There is only one Life-Leader for you and them—Christ.

11-12 "Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant. If you puff yourself up, you’ll get the wind knocked out of you. But if you’re content to simply be yourself, your life will count for plenty."

There is only one Life Leader. There is a "time to follow me as I follow Christ," but always the desire of any God-directed leader is that you will connect to the Life Leader. Be yourself and your life will count for plenty.
