The rock of the church

Posted on: September 12, 2007 by Martha Petteys

So, here’s a little story.

Stephanie Parker and I are about to unload a ton of groceries at the church for the Community Fun Day. Her van is backed up to the door of the fellowship hall. But there’s a problem. We can’t find "the rock."

Anyone who has ever used the downstairs doors to the fellowship hall, knows about "the rock." Since the fellowship hall was built, people have been using a hunk of boulder to hold open the doors whenever needed.

The rock was gone. We searched around in the dark outside for something to prop open the door. (Oh, did I mention, it’s 10:30 at night and being two ladies all alone, we’re a little freaked out.)

After several minutes of searching, Stephanie noticed something: a kick stand had been installed on the bottom of the door. We couldn’t find the rock, because it was no longer needed!

All the improvements at the church haven’t gone unnoticed...though it has taken some of us longer to notice than others. The landscaping, the sign, the railings up front, the stucco down below, it all looks wonderful.

It is too easy to take the sacrificial efforts of others for granted. So I add to Martha's thanks my own. Those who have served so faithfully in the building improvements are to be commended.
Those who serve in less noticable ways, like those who stay behind to clean up, or set up and tear down musical equipment also deserve our gratitude
