The Power of His Resurrection

Posted on: March 22, 2008 by Wade Petteys Related Categories: daily devotional

Romans 6:1-12  What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.For he that is dead is freed from sin.Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

The true power of the resurrection is in the life we live right now.

Romans 6:17&18 says "But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

If you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine, ( I wonder what the doctrine-doesn't-matter crowd does with this one?)you have experienced your own death, burial and resurrection --  with that comes a newness of life.

That is the only way we are meant to celebrate The Resurrection. Not just an event in history (His story) but a life lived by the Power of the Cross.

Celebrate!

The power of the resurrection and abundant life go hand in hand. Thank you, Jesus!!

If we are really new creatures then we should not leave a place for sin in our lives. Our lives should look new!
Our born again experience leaves no room for doubt.
Youre either a sinner OR you're saved by grace.
You cannot remain both. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways

Yes we are created new and it should be visible throughout every aspect of our lives but as long as we remain in this world and this flesh we always have to deal with sin. We ARE saved by grace... from day to day to day. As Paul said "I die daily" because my flesh (and mind!) don't do as I, or God, would have them do in every situation. We are commanded to examine ourselves to see whether we are in the faith or not and also to do so before we partake of communion. I don't believe this need for self evaluation makes us double-minded, though.
