Joshua 10 - 12

Joshua 10: 40-43 So Joshua struck the whole land, the hill country and the Negeb and the lowland and the slopes, and all their kings. He left none remaining, but devoted to destruction all that breathed, just as the LORD God of Israel commanded. And Joshua struck them from Kadesh-barnea as far as Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, as far as Gibeon. And Joshua captured all these kings and their land at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.  Then Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp at Gilgal.

It was a bloody business inheriting what God had promised. Our warfare today is no less intense. Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

The snapshots we read of theses battles almost seems cruel. If that's all you read or knew about God, I don't think you could get a clear  understanding of who He is. I know He is merciful and longsuffering. I also know evil does not go unpunished. The wickedness of these cities must have been great. Nobody feels God was unjust with Sodom because we know the whole story.
