only one step from heaven
from him, one breath away
one heartbeat left to go
and only one more day
revolving, spinning, turning
the world goes on its way
and with each passing sunset
I'm closer to that day
when this mortal falls aside
and his glory is revealed
the captivity of this flesh
in death will then be sealed
the one I long to see
will come then to my side
and take me to that place
where his glory does abide
and so I look with patience
towards the eastern sky
to the rising of the sun
as my redemption draws nigh
this world no longer glitters
its wiles hold no sway
for I journey towards my Jesus
who waits one step away
