2 Samuel 9:1-3 And David said, "Is there still anyone left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?" Now there was a servant of the house of Saul whose name was Ziba, and they called him to David. And the king said to him, "Are you Ziba?" And he said, "I am your servant." And the king said, "Is there not still someone of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God to him?

This is David keeping his word that he spoke to Jonathan.

It is the seemingly little things in in our lives that truly define us and can bring us great victory or cause us to live defeated.

2 Samuel 4 – 6

2 Samuel 5:19 And David inquired of the LORD, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you give them into my hand?" And the LORD said to David, "Go up, for I will certainly give the Philistines into your hand.

2 Samuel 5:22 – 24 And the Philistines came up yet again and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim.  And when David inquired of the LORD, he said, "You shall not go up; go around to their rear, and come against them opposite the balsam trees. And when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then rouse yourself, for then the LORD has gone out before you to strike down the army of the Philistines.

2 Samuel 6:1-7 David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale-judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the LORD of hosts who sits enthroned on the cherubim. And they carried the ark of God on a new cart and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. And Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart, with the ark of God, and Ahio went before the ark And David and all the house of Israel were making merry before the LORD, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals. And when they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah, and God struck him down there because of his error, and he died there beside the ark of God.

Our lives are so much better when we inquire of the LORD first. Great victory in our live can turn dangerous for us when we believe we can do it without God.

Poem by Ned: “one step away”

one step away

only one step from heaven
from him, one breath away
one heartbeat left to go
and only one more day
revolving, spinning, turning
the world goes on its way
and with each passing sunset
I’m closer to that day
when this mortal falls aside
and his glory is revealed
the captivity of this flesh
in death will then be sealed
the one I long to see
will come then to my side
and take me to that place
where his glory does abide
and so I look with patience
towards the eastern sky
to the rising of the sun
as my redemption draws nigh
this world no longer glitters
its wiles hold no sway
for I journey towards my Jesus
who waits one step away

2 Samuel 3 :1 There was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. And David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul became weaker and weaker.

What a struggle for David to become who God called him to be. Don’t think that if God calls you to do something that it comes without a fight.

1 Samuel 28 – 31

1 Samuel 31:1-7 Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before the Philistines and fell slain on Mount Gilboa. And the Philistines overtook Saul and his sons, and the Philistines struck down Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.  The battle pressed hard against Saul, and the archers found him, and he was badly wounded by the archers.  uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and mistreat me." But his armor-bearer would not, Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, "Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these for he feared greatly. Therefore Saul took his own sword and fell upon it. And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell upon his sword and died with him. Thus Saul died, and his three sons, and his armor-bearer, and all his men, on the same day together. And when the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley and those beyond the Jordan saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled. And the Philistines came and lived in them.

What a sad end to who was suppose to be a great king. Greatness in His kingdom comes from obedience to Him. Do you think Saul was saved in the end? Read about the account of him and Samuel in Chapter 28. What do you think?
