VBS 2008 – Dino Detectives!

Check out the fun at Vacation Bible School

Our little Dino Detectives are having a ball. Each day Dr. Doug A. Fossilup shows up and the fun begins.

Today they joined him in an archeological dig. We were amazed at how many dinosaur bones were buried in our churches back yard! And if that wasn’t enough there were dinosaur eggs hidden all over the place! Each detective got to find two eggs. One they cracked open to find the baby and one they took home to show dad and mom how to break open a dinosaur egg.

Crafts, outdoor games, music, activity sheets, a video and Wanda the puppet round out a day at VBS.

Check out the pictures and see all the fun!

A big THANK YOU to all of our teachers and the many unnamed helpers that made our Vacation Bible School possible!

Pastor’s Blog

Just wanted to give you a quick update for Winston – Salem NC. It took us 14 hours to get here. A very long drive but well worth the trip. This has far exceeded my expectations. There is a great move of God here. The worship is alive, they have put on some great skits and the preaching was awesome (and that was only the first night). The kids are loving it. I’ll write more tomorrow. If you’re keeping up with the reading, you should be on Job 10-12 today.

Esther 7 – 10

Esther 7:7And the king arose in his wrath from the wine-drinking and went into the palace garden, but Haman stayed to beg for his life from Queen Esther, for he saw that harm was determined against him by the king.8And the king returned from the palace garden to the place where they were drinking wine, as Haman was falling on the couch where Esther was. And the king said, “Will he even assault the queen in my presence, in my own house?” As the word left the mouth of the king, they covered Haman’s face.9Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs in attendance on the king, said, “Moreover, the gallows  that Haman has prepared for Mordecai, whose word saved the king, is standing at Haman’s house, fifty cubits  high.”10And the king said, “Hang him on that.” So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the wrath of the king abated.

The people of God should never be in the business of building gallows. Jesus said with what judgment you judge it will come back to you. Leave the punishment to God lest we be hanged on our own gallows.

Esther 4 – 6

Esther 4:12And they told Mordecai what Esther had said.13Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, “Do not think to yourself that in the king’s palace you will escape any more than all the other Jews.14For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”15Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai,16“Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish.”17Mordecai then went away and did everything as Esther had ordered him.

One of the great passages of the scripture. I would to God that all His people felt such destiny and purpose in our lives, and were willing to carry it out whatever the cost.

Esther 1 – 3

Esther 3: 1 After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman the Agagite, the son of Hammedatha, and advanced him and set his throne above all the officials who were with him.2And all the king’s servants who were at the king’s gate bowed down and paid homage to Haman, for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai did not bow down or pay homage.3Then the king’s servants who were at the king’s gate said to Mordecai, “Why do you transgress the king’s command?”4And when they spoke to him day after day and he would not listen to them, they told Haman, in order to see whether Mordecai’s words would stand, for he had told them that he was a Jew.5And when Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow down or pay homage to him, Haman was filled with fury.6But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone. So, as they had made known to him the people of Mordecai, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews, the people of Mordecai, throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus.

7In the first month, which is the month of Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, they cast Pur (that is, they cast lots) before Haman day after day; and they cast it month after month till the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar.8Then Haman said to King Ahasuerus, “There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom. Their laws are different from those of every other people, and they do not keep the king’s laws, so that it is not to the king’s profit to tolerate them.9If it please the king, let it be decreed that they be destroyed, and I will pay 10,000 talents of silver into the hands of those who have charge of the king’s business, that they may put it into the king’s treasuries.”10So the king took his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman the Agagite, the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews.11And the king said to Haman, “The money is given to you, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to you.”

How the enemy of God rages when God’s people will not bow. We believe trouble comes to people for just doing wrong, but often it comes for doing the right thing.

Nehemiah 12 – 13

Nehemiah 12: 31 Then I brought the leaders of Judah up onto the wall and appointed two great choirs that gave thanks. One went to the south on the wall to the Dung Gate.32And after them went Hoshaiah and half of the leaders of Judah,33and Azariah, Ezra, Meshullam,34Judah, Benjamin, Shemaiah, and Jeremiah,35and certain of the priests’ sons with trumpets: Zechariah the son of Jonathan, son of Shemaiah, son of Mattaniah, son of Micaiah, son of Zaccur, son of Asaph;36and his relatives, Shemaiah, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, Judah, and Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God. And Ezra the scribe went before them.37At the Fountain Gate they went up straight before them by the stairs of the city of David, at the ascent of the wall, above the house of David, to the Water Gate on the east.

38The other choir of those who gave thanks went to the north, and I followed them with half of the people, on the wall, above the Tower of the Ovens, to the Broad Wall,39and above the Gate of Ephraim, and by the Gate of Yeshanah,  and by the Fish Gate and the Tower of Hananel and the Tower of the Hundred, to the Sheep Gate; and they came to a halt at the Gate of the Guard.40So both choirs of those who gave thanks stood in the house of God, and I and half of the officials with me;41and the priests Eliakim, Maaseiah, Miniamin, Micaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah, with trumpets;42and Maaseiah, Shemaiah, Eleazar, Uzzi, Jehohanan, Malchijah, Elam, and Ezer. And the singers sang with Jezrahiah as their leader.43And they offered great sacrifices that day and rejoiced, for God had made them rejoice with great joy; the women and children also rejoiced. And the joy of Jerusalem was heard far away.

Everything that God does in us and through us is established in our lives with thanksgiving. Let it surround your life. If today isn’t so bright, look back at God’s goodness, it’s there. A thankful heart brings great victory.  Colossians 2:7

Nehemiah 9 – 11

Nehemiah 10:28-39 The rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants, and all who have separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons, their daughters, all who have knowledge and understanding, join with their brothers, their nobles, and enter into a curse and an oath to walk in God’s Law that was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the Lord our Lord and his rules and his statutes. “We will not give our daughters to the peoples of the land or take their daughters for our sons. And if the peoples of the land bring in goods or any grain on the Sabbath day to sell, we will not buy from them on the Sabbath or on a holy day. And we will forego the crops of the seventh year and the exaction of every debt.

“We also take on ourselves the obligation to give yearly a third part of a shekel  for the service of the house of our God: for the showbread, the regular grain offering, the regular burnt offering, the Sabbaths, the new moons, the appointed feasts, the holy things, and the sin offerings to make atonement for Israel, and for all the work of the house of our God. We, the priests, the Levites, and the people, have likewise cast lots for the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our God, according to our fathers’ houses, at times appointed, year by year, to burn on the altar of the Lord our God, as it is written in the Law.

"We obligate ourselves to bring the firstfruits of our ground and the firstfruits of all fruit of every tree, year by year, to the house of the Lord; also to bring to the house of our God, to the priests who minister in the house of our God, the firstborn of our sons and of our cattle, as it is written in the Law, and the firstborn of our herds and of our flocks; and to bring the first of our dough, and our contributions, the fruit of every tree, the wine and the oil, to the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and to bring to the Levites the tithes from our ground, for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all our towns where we labor. And the priest, the son of Aaron, shall be with the Levites when the Levites receive the tithes. And the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes to the house of our God, to the chambers of the storehouse. For the people of Israel and the sons of Levi shall bring the contribution of grain, wine, and oil to the chambers, where the vessels of the sanctuary are, as well as the priests who minister, and the gatekeepers and the singers. We will not neglect the house of our God.”

True repentance is never just being sorry, ( read 2 Corinthians 7:9-11). But sorrow with a life change gets God’s attention. These Jews took the time to find out what the Word of God said and made a commitment to God AND to each other to keep it.

Nehemiah 6 – 8

Nehemiah 6:10-14 Now when I went into the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah, son of Mehetabel, who was confined to his home, he said, “Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple. Let us close the doors of the temple, for they are coming to kill you. They are coming to kill you by night.” But I said, “Should such a man as I run away? And what man such as I could go into the temple and live?  I will not go in.”And I understood and saw that God had not sent him, but he had pronounced the prophecy against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. For this purpose he was hired, that I should be afraid and act in this way and sin, and so they could give me a bad name in order to taunt me. Remember Tobiah and Sanballat, O my God, according to these things that they did, and also the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets who wanted to make me afraid.

So many great things in these chapters.

Be careful who you trust. Its not that you shouldn’t trust people but  before you follow someone in an important decision know their motives. Thank God Nehemiah did.
