Forgiveness Part 5 [Sunday School Feb 7th]

This is the fifth and final part in the Forgiveness series taught by Jean Petteys. Here is a recap of some of the main points.

We are called to longsuffering with annoyances, major or minor, but not with actions that are evil.

Forgiveness is for actions that have been done against us that harm our ability to trust.

Forgiveness requires we place blame.

We forgive actions that people do, not what people are.

Foregiveness serves the purpose of healing the one who has been wounded.

People who overcome the painful, bitter events in their lives are not strong, they are not tough. They are great. They are greater than the circumstances of their lives and forgiveness opens them up to the abundance in Christ that bitterness tries to destroy.

Becuase forgiveness sets us free from the actions of others, forgiveness sets us free to experience a more fair future.

It’s OK for forgiveness to be a process… just commit to sticking with it!!

Forgiveness does not restore a relationship, acts of repentance do that work.

Forgiveness does not guarantee reconciliation.

That’s OK.

From the beginning the enemy captures the soul of man by using God’s Word and our desires against us.

Reconciliation with an unsafe person that has not experienced penance is dangerous.

God has called us to peace.

Reconciliation is a rebuilding process, not a remodeling process. Reconciliation builds again the fondation of trust that has been destroyed. It takes time.
